Introduction / FAQ / Rules
Welcome to vg_footage. The purpose of this community is to share video game footage with the following people:

(1) fans who already own the games and want to watch a specific scene of without playing the entire game all over again

(2) fans who are looking for non-FMV footage in order to make fanvids. Non-FMV game footage is next to impossible to find online, and if you don't own a capture card you cannot make your own.

(3) curious people who want to discover a video game and who will buy the game if they like what they see.

Please note that this is all videos posted in this community are accessible to members only.

Community rules

  • This community is members-only. That means you must be a member to view the posts and access the videos. To join the community, you must have a LJ account (sign up here - it's free). Once you have a LJ and are logged in, you can join the community.

  • Only I can post. However, everyone can reply/comment to my posts. In time, I might allow other people to post (you would still need to be approved for posting), if they want to post mirors or share footage I might not access to. Contact me (comment here or email me) if you think you have something interesting to share.

  • General netiquette: don't spam, don't flame, be polite, etc.

  • You can add this community to your friends list to keep track with it. To do this, click here.

  • You can repost these files on your website, edited or not (for instance, if you have an Auron fansite, you can cut all the Auron parts and post them on your site). If you do this, please give me credit. Also, it would be nice if you let me know (it's not necessary, but I am curious about where my files end up!). Note: reposting means you upload the files on your own server. Don't link directly to my server.

  • Please don't repost my files to sites like YouTube and Google Videos.

  • Don't hotlink my files (What is hotlinking, aka direct-linking or bandwidth theft) In the case of this community, hotlinks are links that end in .avi. Please be aware that I have absolutely no tolerance for hotlinking, and I am not above pulling the good ol' switcheroo trick if I catch someone at it.

  • You can use these files to make music vids. That's what they were made for. Credit is appreciated but not necessary.

  • You can use screen caps off these files to make icons, layouts, etc. Credit is not necessary.

  • Rules can be changed. I'm open to suggestions. If you have an idea, let me know by posting it here or by emailing me.

Downloading FAQ

  • I have a lot of webspace, but it's not unlimited. For that reason, some files might be removed from the servers eventually. For now, however, I have plenty of space. I'll advise when I start taking files offline.

  • Remember to save the files on your computer before viewing them. That decreases the workload on my server, thus increasing the download speed. You can do that by clicking a file with the right-hand button of your mouse and choosing "save as" (On a Mac, use option-click).

  • You can use a download manager. In fact, if you have dial-up, I recommend it, because it allows you to resume a file should you get disconnected. GetRight is a free, easy-to-use download manager.

Video Playback FAQ

  • Regular game footage will come in video of a 320x240 size, encoded in XviD video (bitrate: approximately 500 kb/s) and MP3 audio (bitrate: approximately 64 kb/s).

  • If you only have audio, it's because XviD is not installed on your computer. You can download it (available for both Windows and Mac) from XviD movies.

  • Audio is .mp3 and is encoded with the Lame codec. It's incredibly common, so you should be able to play the audio. If for some reason the audio won't play for you, contact me (leave a comment here or email me).

  • Audio and video are interleaved in OpenDML AVI standards. Any player that can play AVIs should be able to play this. This includes: Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, VLC, Winamp, EO-video, Real Player, QuickTime, amongst hundreds of others. Remember that XviD must be installed for the video to work!

  • When I capture my video game footage, the configuration will generally be as follows, if applicable:

    • No map or guide on screen

    • No "help" window in battle mode

    • No subtitles if there is a voice-over

    • Default camera settings

For any further questions, you can post a comment here or contact me by email at uluviel@fourhobbits.net. Please note that all comments posted to this community are emailed to me, so don't worry about replying to an old post: I'll receive your comment anyway.

What a wonderful idea! I've been looking for FFX in-game footage for forever to make fanvids for my website, but haven't been able to find any, and capture cards are waaaay too expensive for my poor little retail slave wallet. X3;

I can't wait too see some of your stuff, and if I do end up using your footage I will definitely credit you for being so fucking awesome. ♥
Uluviel: Final Fantasy Xuluviel on October 31st, 2005 07:08 am (UTC)
Capture cards are actually pretty cheap (mine was CAN$100, but the store carried cards as cheap as CAN$60). It's all the techy knowledge you need in order to use them that's complicated. I consider myself pretty computer-savvy, and I was swearing for days trying to get the thing to work correctly.

I've also been looking for in-game footage forever without ever finding it, that's why I bought the card. And I figured others were in my situation, so why not share? :)

Hey, great idea! I would definately be interested in downloading these and using them, with credit of course :)

I looooooooove this idea. I'm not a vidder, but I love to watch the cinema cut scenes from both FF X & FF X-2. I can't use a BitTorrent though for some reason, so something like YSI or MegaUpload would be wonderful. Thank you for this community.

I would love to use these and would definately credit you for them!

I’m currently making a website, just for MySpace layouts photoshop tutorials, simple things like, but I can’t seem to find a design I like… But then I found these, and would really love to use them in the design, the link to the designer takes me nowhere, and no terms or rules on the page, so I’m kinda lost.

I would absoultely adore you for life. And I'm like, ecstatic that you're willing to be so generous and share. ♥

It would be awesome... I own Auron.Org.... any Auron footage would be... utterly to die for.

I would be interested! There are lots of scenes I would LOVE to see again! If you could share, that would be awesome!
Blockhead Grande: Yojimbo / Squee!kamaitachi on October 31st, 2005 02:39 pm (UTC)
I'd be interested! Someone should've thought of this a long time ago.

(Guh, I wish I was awesome like that. I would absolutely die for the non-FMV footage in Zone Of The Enders. Icons! But I'm lame like that. No capture card and not enough savvy.)

This is really an amazing idea and you'd definitely have me as a member of the community as well. ^___~

(Sorry, messed up the links. Here I go again:)

I know the files will definitely play on a Mac, if you have installed the codec (there is a Mac version available here).

As for Final Cut, I've never tried it (I have a PC). My guess is that if DivX works, XviD should too. You might need to convert the clips to another format (like with FFmpegX, maybe?)

I suggest you try downloading short clips from this website and test them. That way you'll know whether you can use the files or not before you start downloading the large, one-hour ones.

Heh... it would definitely be more convenient than all those FFX save files I have for in game cut scenes. It'd be awesome to have those scenes on my computer~ :D

Cool shit.

Well Respect from Kazakhstan! Just wonder: Which soft you are using ? DSCaler ?
Uluviel: Baralaiuluviel on November 3rd, 2005 07:40 pm (UTC)
My capture card came with Windows Media Encoder, which is what I'm using. It works really well except for the fact that it only exports in wmv format. I'll check out DSCaler though, it would be interesting to have an alternative. Thanks for the tip!

shiakuu_hitomeshiakuu_hitome on November 7th, 2005 02:28 am (UTC)
Dude. You so rock. Though I am not a vidder (computer tech that goes more intense than paintshop makes my head hurt), I am a writer, and I would LOVE to see some of the scenes again. Especially as you get further towards the end of the game, since I have yet to finish everything completely. @.@ Ah well.

Wow this is going to be so amazing. Thanks a lot for capturing these files, I'll really appreciate them. :DD

I heard that NTSC version is better (picture quality).
Uluviel: Auronuluviel on November 14th, 2005 03:41 pm (UTC)
I have the NTSC one. I don't know about picture quality, but that means I have no Dark Aeons :(

Uluviel: Baralaiuluviel on November 14th, 2005 06:17 pm (UTC)

Oooh, Auron's voice actor. I love him. Can't wait.

There is No interview with Makkenzi v___v

Question: Is your PS2 with Mod Chip ? Maybe You are using HDLoader ?
With Mod Chip You can launch FFX(PAL) on Your PS2(NTSC).
Kibo no Hikaribernards_gurl on November 15th, 2005 08:04 am (UTC)
I'm in. I'm tired of having to use footage that I'm tired of seeing in FF vids anyway, just because that's all I can get.

This is a good idea.

Also useful for fanfic writers!
MANY thanks. I and the good folks on the aulu community will find this a helpful resource in making our fanfics have the right tone/manner/voices for the characters we love.

A complete timestamp guide to vg_footage for FFX.
This was made for the aulu community, so there's a slight emphasis on Auron and Lulu, but I tried to make sure I covered all the highlights of the story. As a fanfic writing resource, I wanted to have a quick guide to what happened when, to save having to search.

A time-stamp guide to key conversations/moments in vg_footage's FFX files

Hope some people find it useful!

Re: A complete timestamp guide to vg_footage for FFX.
Ooh, thanks. That's very helpful. I tag the entries to make search easier, but it's mostly from a vidder's point-of-view. We see Valefor here, we see Tidus as a child here, etc... A guide aimed at fanfic writers would be helpful too.

Would you mind if I reposted it here in a post of it's own (so I can link it to the memories), and maybe edit the list a little to add highlights from other characters moments?
Helluinauronlu on April 22nd, 2006 04:47 am (UTC)
Re: A complete timestamp guide to vg_footage for FFX.
Please, by all means, go for it! I'd be glad if it were useful to more people, and I don't mind if you edit it. :)
Elendraug: FFX - Auronelendraug on April 22nd, 2006 03:43 am (UTC)
Oh my god, you rule SO MUCH. And guhhh I know how much EFFORT this sort of thing takes, too -- I did something similar with the little-cared-about game, Galerians and its sequel a while back, and it's tedious and time-consuming. @.o

Seriously. THANK YOU. <3333 x infinity
Uluviel: Patuluviel on April 22nd, 2006 03:59 am (UTC)
Really? Are the clips still online, because I would love the links. I've started recording Galerians: Ash (I don't own Galerians yet), but if it's already been done, no use continuing. I've just done the FMVs so far, and that's because I could extract them directly by putting the game in my computer.
Elendraug: Rainheart-May I help you withyour bags?elendraug on April 22nd, 2006 04:02 am (UTC)
8D See, the REALLY unfortunate thing is that before I had them all converted and hosted on my dinky website, my harddrive CRASHED. My sister and I have yet to attempt any sort of data recovery, so they MIGHT still be there, but who knows.

I have the entire first disc of the original Galerians, and then a handful from Galerians: ASH right here. I also have the G:A soundtrack, if you're interested. :D
Uluviel: Patuluviel on April 22nd, 2006 04:38 am (UTC)
I also have the G:A soundtrack, if you're interested.

OMG YES. Thank you! I can't tell you how many times I've listened to my crappy copy of (what I've now learned is called) Requiem Manentia.

I'll probably check a few clips from Galerians. Even though I haven't played it yet, I suppose playing Galerians: Ash has already spoiled me through and through :D

I feel like picking up the game again now, especially since listening to pieces of the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children dub yesterday (the guy who voices Ash voices Yazoo)
Elendraug: Rion Steiner - wtf?elendraug on April 22nd, 2006 05:00 am (UTC)
(lovelove LOVE your Pat icon ;; <3 <3 god the ending scene kills me SO DEAD)

Very, very welcome! <3 I bought it for Parano's theme, mostly, 'cos I couldn't find it ANYWHERE. XD

XD; Yeah, I wish I'd played the first game first, though I HIGHLY recommend playing it anyway if you can track it down. It's only a few dollars in eBay, and it's a phenomenal game (if a bit quirkier in terms of gameplay).

Apparently he (or the Japanese VA for Ash?) does some voice acting in yaoi hentai anime stuff. XDD
princessjolina on November 11th, 2006 07:11 pm (UTC)
Wow, I want to thank you for making this community! I've been looking all over for FFX/X-2 gameplay footage and it's insanely hard to find but I wanted to add more than just FMVs in my AMVs. Thanks!

Wow, that's really nice. I love rewatching times and times again my fav moments in videogames, but sometimes I have to replay the videogame from one of my 100 savings and it gets kinda boring XD. This is a great idea, and thanks for your hard work! *o*

Oooooooohhh!! Permission to worship you now? ♥ You are such a generous soul to be doing this. XD I'm totally joining, and thank you so much for doing this for people like us who don't know anything about capture cards (and don't have the cash for them) and can't find hardly any cutscenes anywhere else. *_*
